Welcome to the Forum!

Good to know, we don’t use many pronouns here but we’re very much a safe space.

So, what kind of witchery are you into?

hello sorry for such a late reply

I haven’t done much just a few protection charms and tarot to mostly shuffling the deck is difficult because my cards are large like bigger than my hands in width and height big

Welcome.

I get it the deck I use for my daily reading is huge and have had to learn to shuffle them different. Doesn’t matter as long as you are putting your energy into them.

I’m the only one who’s used regular playing cards as stand-ins? In fact, there’s a whole practice

of divination using playing cards, Cartomancy. Playing cards are descendants of Tarot cards.

Rather than fumbling with and wearing out my (only) Tarot deck, on the rather rare occasions

I do a spread, I use the regular playing cards. Each one is labeled what it stands for, permanent

marker. Easy to see if inverted. Once laid out, I grab the real deck and book to interpret.

I’ve seen other people using playing cards. As a visual person who prefers a more intuitive style of reading, the thought has never appealed to me, but to each their own!

My main tarot deck has oversized cards too. If you do an over-hand or a Hindu shuffle it helps. Sounds like you’ve had a good start! You’re in the right place to learn, so welcome.

Cheers. :trident_emblem:

Oh, I’m very visual, indeed. Swap the proxy cards for the real deal as soon as layout is done.

It does add another step, but I have to use a book always to get the deeper meanings anyways.

Thoughtful Thursday Kerian,

I am a third-generation games dealer here in “Vegas, Baby, Vegas”:slot_machine: . We have a “thang” here in dealing that is called “washing” the cards :joker: . You do NOT need to shuffle and worry about paper cuts. When a dealer gets a new deck/decks; after checking that all the numbers are there, the cards are turned over face down, and “swirled” to mix on the table top. When you feel that they have been “agitated” enough, just bring them in, straighten and cut/tap/kiss/smoke…whatever and cut and make your read.

I hope this helps you out. No more paper cuts, and I guess if the casinos believe that is a good “mix”, who are we to argue? (I mean, casinos are NOT built on the winners)

So, this is what I do to ALL my divination cards. I do not shuffle, that wears them out toooooo quickly, since they are paper.

Now, I have an RSW plastic deck that I DO shuffle, but I have used plastic cards in the casinos before and know how to handle them and about how long to expect them to last.

My first couple tarot decks (recently, the last 4 years), I went through quickly. Thinking, being a dealer, I could handle the cards. However, most paper tarot decks are NOT made for shuffling, therefore the “wash” shuffle. I do not like the “hand-over-hand” shuffle because the cards can still stick together. I do not see it as a real shuffle. But to each their own.

I hope this gives you a little help.
