How do you find deities to work with

Any advice for finding/working with deities?

Thoughtful Thursday Kerian,

I started just looking up names, pantheons, or anything else that caught my interest. I studied the pantheons and then just ā€œtried them outā€. Some, worked, some didn’t. I have returned to some for permanent, or as a base, and others I have changed as the mood seems fit. I am not necessarily committed to any one diety. I call upon the one that seems to fit best at the moment.

For my own reasons, I invoke, Athena, Sila and/or Nut for Air, East. I invoke Brigid for Fire, South. I invoke Danu and/or Tiamat for Water, West. And I have a hybrid of my own K’Ala for Earth. I invoke Psyche as the ā€œimmortal soulā€, the human who descended and rose to become her own (like the Phoenix?). Psyche is also about re-birth and transformation (butterflies) so she is also awesome for Spring.

I researched many goddesses and have times where I invoke others, but these are my mainstays.

Hope you find who speaks to you soon.

I usually search for something related to a goddess/god and see which names come up, and then reseach deeper from there.

Example: I might use the keywords ā€˜protection’ or ā€˜cats’ and see what goddes/god represents those words.

My Familiar connected me to my Demi-Goddess. One of the only two that’s in my Pantheon.

Hello! Let me share my experience.

The first deity that I’ve worked with is goddess Kali. I got a calling/sign during a meditation session. Literally the word Kali appeared on the screen of my mind. Then I’ve searched for mantras related to Kali and eventually started working with her. The other deity that I’ve been working with, Loki, I came across him when searching up for ā€œqueer deitiesā€. Then I’ve started working with him. The answer is that possibilities are endless. You can come across a deity in any way possible. Well, sometimes you get an obvious calling however you don’t need to wait for an obvious calling. If you feel drawn to a deity, that’s enough for a calling/sign.

Fanciful Friday Sol,

Yes, there are many ways to connect with a deity. I like Kali also. I have created a hybrid name for my Earth goddess. I have combined a few names/goddesses for mother Earth and I now call her K’Ala. It seems to have been working for me so far. I have only become singular with this ā€œgoddessā€ the last month and it seems to work. I do not necessarily work with goddesses. I choose a name from a deity, but I use the ā€œnameā€ as a reference/focal point for my action and mind. I basically work with the elements and use names/goddesses as a ā€œtangibleā€ focus for my energies. I hope that made sense to y’all.

As a result, I use different names, entities, ideas for different elements and reasons. Example, I use Athena and Air (Swords on Tarot) to represent the wisdom/logic, yet I use the Egyptian Nut for the Sky and Inuit Alaskan Sila for the Air. All the eastern element. I use Celtic Brigid for Fire. I use Danu (Celtic and Germanic [Danube river]) for Water/emotion/West, and also Tiamat, Babylonian for ā€œcontrol through the chaosā€ to help control my emotions/reactions, and then K’Ala for my Earth/northern goddess. I then use Psyche as my Spirit. I have tried others, but seem to like this one the best. Psyche, Greek for the mortal who descended and returned to be immortal. Psyche also represents rebirth (from her descent into ā€œhellā€ and return), which leads to butterflies…I could continue, but for my own reasons I use her for my Spirit aspect. I occasionally change these, but have come to realize that Brigid REALLY wants me to keep her. Tiamat really helps me, and I have tried to change Danu a few times, but always need to return to her. You will find out through trial and error who works out best for you.

Happy Hunting, and let us know what deities you decide to use.

Maybe we can list who we use:

Lady Gene:

Athena, Wisdom; Nut, Sky; Sila, Air—All East

Brigid, Sun–South

Danu, water; Tiamat, emotional control–West

K’Ala (my hybrid for mother Earth)–North

Psyche, Greek goddess of the soul–Spirit, Cosmos, Sky…

So those are mine, currently, and mostly. I have been having some issues trying to get my Eastern and Northern and Spirit deities, but I’m settling in on these three.:upside_down_face:

As you can see, everyone has different approaches.

It’s also possible that a deity is already around you that hasn’t revealed itself yet, in which case you can get a deity identification reading from a reader.

In many cases a deity will naturally reveal itself once you reach a certain level of experience in your practice. While yes, you can go through efforts to pick one and call upon them to work with you, not all will take you up on your invitation, and it’s important to be ok with that as that’s part of the journey.

I’ve always taken a very passive approach with deities. Based on where I am in my practice, they always come when I am ready.

Cheers. :trident_emblem:
