Has anyone here worked with Oracle cards? Want to make sure this is the proper thread for this type of question

As some of you know I am very new (like fresh out of the cauldron) to the practice. I’ve been doing single card tarot pulls every morning for a couple weeks. Before using the cards I followed the guidebook recommendation for cleansing and charging the cards. I also became curious about Oracle cards and today followed the instructions provided by the that guidebook for clearing energy and consecration of the cards. While doing so, I had an overwhelming experience and it’s still going over an hour later. Is this a typical thing? Not an anxious feeling, but heart thudding, not accelerated but hard, almost painful, a fullness in my chest I can’t explain, both ears ringing very loudly, a little bit of lightheadedness which, could be related to heart rate. Although these may sound like anxiety symptoms, I am very familiar with anxiety as we are old friends and I do not feel anxious. Of course physiologically speaking anxiety and excitement have the same presentation but I don’t feel particularly giddy or excited either. Then I did my very first reading, which she explained how to do in the in the guide, a three card pull, and there was my life. I can’t explain , I just knew. Although the tarot cards are sometimes hard for me to interpret (which may be unfair since I’ve only been doing a single card and not three) this just hit me. I don’t know what to think and I would really love to process this a little bit. I didn’t experience anything like this with the tarot cards and I even took them to bed with me a couple of nights and charge them under a full moon, which I have not had the opportunity to do with the Oracle cards yet. If this is not the correct thread for this kind of discussion please let me know. Thank you!

Nice to meet you!
Don’t worry, this is exactly the right place to ask. Based on what you described, your experience is rather similar to mine after a draw (I kinda use oracle cards? I use a regular deck like a tarot deck, being in the broom closet). I’d recommend grounding. It seems like you have a lot of excess energy, and when I try to do anything spiritual with excess energy I crash and it doesn’t make sense and I feel horrible. This forum recommended grounding to me.

So yeah, I’d recommend grounding as soon as possible. Meditation, crystals, whatever your favorite grounding method is, do it. NOW.

This much excess energy is worrying to me- I just feel like I had a supernatural high (not normal happy mood) after some draws, it doesn’t have a physical effect like it seems to have for you, just a mental one.

May the Gods and Spirits protect you!

I want to make sure I understand what you’re saying and clarify. I was perfectly calm at the time I started the ritual and while I was doing it right up until I touched the cards to my chest. I honestly had no expectation so it’s not anticipation that “something exciting is going to happen” either. This was completely spontaneous and unanticipated. I didn’t start with excess energy, it happened to me during (I don’t know if ritual is the right word). Thanks for your input.

Greetings Jenny,

Mind sharing the details of that ritual here, as it’s written in the book? I know the type of instructions you’re talking about that they include with those decks. Sometimes those rituals are, shall we say… less than perfect lol.

I’m reading out of the guidebook but I will edit some because it’s lengthy. Start by holding the cards in your non-dominant hand. Form a fist with your dominant hand and tap your knuckles once firmly on top of the card stack, which the book says will send white light through the cards clearing them of old and lower energies. Next touch each card with your dominant hand. I made a slight modification here because the cards are very big for my hand but I pulled each card one at a time set them down and made sure I touched each and every one of them with my dominant hand. The guidebook says in this way the cards get to know you. This isn’t all that different than what I did with my tarot cards. The book then says" when you’re done touching each card, fan the cards out and hold them at the base. Bring the fanned cards to your heart with the pictures facing you. Close your eyes and center yourself. Then say your intentions and prayers for the cards, such as (and I quoted this verbatim) ‘I ask that all of my readings with these cards be very accurate, specific, and healing. I ask for help in clearly hearing, seeing, knowing, and feeling the true underlying meaning of each card reading. Please help all my readings to bring blessings to everyone involved.’" I was not anxious or even all that excited about this process it just felt like a part of the journey if that makes any sense. So I didn’t come to the exercise over excited or already anxious or anything like that. I was very relaxed and curious but didn’t have any expectations for anything out of the ordinary to happen. I should also say that this was not a negative experience for me, I wasn’t upset about it just a little startled and curious. Let me know if this makes sense or if you have any questions.

I see. This appears to be an “activation” spell not just for the cards, but for you as well. This explains the “charged” feeling and how easily you are now reading the cards.

I suggest doing Jasper’s advice and doing some grounding. You can try doing any of their suggestions, or all of them possibly if the energy is persistent.

You’re ok, but it’s also not good to walk around with a lot of excess energy constantly. It can start to have a cascade effect so you need to ground. :lotus:
