Im a baby witch still, I dedicated months on learning and understanding witchcraft and the foundations of it, although im not an expert by any means I do feel more comfortable actually doing small spells and rituals. I part-took in Yule this past December and felt very close to the practice. I decided I wanted to call upon a deity and worship her as my first, and I decided on Lady Aphrodite as I seek inner love for myself and growth, I have made a simple altar for her and pray to her and speak to her often. I have even made some offering such as sweets and apples, moon water and wine. However my dilemma is knowing if she’s actually listening or how do I know if she has accepted my offerings and prayer or if I have been rejected for now. Any signs, advice, or reccomendatioms on how to begin worshiping a deity would be helpful.
P.s: If you worked or work with her, please send advice!
If you feel called to a deity, roll with it. Do not expect results immediately. Many newbies think that everything will be instant (thank-you, Hollywood). Just stay consistent, and go with your instinct. I have “called” on deity’s only to “feel” something later, and switch my focus. That is not bad nor wrong. Interpret the signals as you feel led. If this is the deity, you will receive confirmation, if it is someone else reaching out, you will feel the nudge to change direction slightly. Just keep on doing what feels comfortable for you. When that feeling changes, change your approach. Definitely do NOT stick with something because you think is the “right” way to do something. In the Craft, there is no “right” way, only your way!! Welcome to our group and “stay strong and chive on”—sorry, that may be a little dated.
Good Rising! And thank you! Yes I have definitely felt a bit disappointed that I hadn’t felt any big changes but regardless I will continue to pray to her and worship her, I do try to stir from too much online chatter that doesn’t seem legit because it is overwhelming for sure but thank you so much for responding!
I also work with Lady Aphrodite often, I’ve found that you wont always get a response, but that doesn’t mean she isnt listening. You will also never get “rejected” from worshiping a god, at least in my experience and from speaking to other Hellenist friends. But to recognize when a god is listening, you just have to be open minded and pay attention to your surroundings. You can sometimes feel the presence of the deity you’re speaking to, or maybe you’ll find a blooming flower in the coldest days of fall. If you live near a beach or the ocean, watch out for shells or any turtle symbols in places you didn’t expect. Of course she communicates with everyone differently, so this is only maybe a way she will communicate with you. If you have a pendulum you could also try asking her, shes very kind and understanding of baby witches.
Good Rising! I will try the pendulum! I have been trying to keep an open mind but I will admit it is hard, but I know shes kind and understanding now so I just got to continue and try. I also dont know if this is a sign but I gave her an offering of a red apple a couple weeks ago and it still looks good so I dont know if thats just the Apple being good or her accepting the offering. Also, since I have limited space in my altar, is it okay to not have a statue or image of her yet? I have a small swan and glass seashell plate for her right now but would you reccomend i get her an image or statue?
I think that the red apple could very well be a sign, but its good to remember that sometimes its easy to mix up the divine and the mundane. Its perfectly fine not to have a statue or picture of her yet! I don’t have either on my altar, theres no right or wrong way to set up your altars. If you want to, go ahead!
