Want to feel connected but still nothing after a whole year

I really feel like there is something for me in paganism but I’ve been trying to reach out and connect with several different deities for over a year now and I just don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I don’t even know what to expect from deities at this point. I don’t think any are all-powerful, and Idk what they can and can’t help with. I never get anything I ask for and never get the help I need. And I don’t ask for a ton of stuff, just things I really need help with. But my requests never seem to be answered. :frowning: (I also send prayers of gratitude just in case I’m missing anything, but I really don’t know if I am)

I really want to feel like someone out there is real and watches over me and cares about me. I’d love it if someone was able to help me when I’m in desperate need. I see other people saying they’re having so many experiences but I just don’t feel any connection. I keep trying but I feel so discouraged.

Can anyone else relate? Do you have any advice? :sob:

Super Sunday Crescentia (again),

I think you may be a little confused about “magick” and “witchcraft”. It is not what Hollywood presents it to be. You cannot just pick out a god/dess name and start praying to them and having everything come out rosy. It sounds as if you are looking at witchcraft from an almost Christian perspective. Meaning, if you pray to God/dess so and so (like the Christian God), but

you think God/dess will answer and if there is no answer, it is because you are not “worthy” or did not do something right (as if all “gift” are based on a merit system, which is what organized religion teaches…if you do this and that, you will be ‘rewarded’)

In order to “feel like someone out there is real and watches over me”…magick is so much about intent. You have to believe with every fiber of your being FIRST, the the god/desses…cosmos…aether…elements…what/however you call it will help everything fall into order for your benefit. But, it is not, just say or do this or that, and sit and wait. Witchcraft is about your intent of what you want, performing your supplication (to the god/desses, elements, or however you choose to practice) and then working to help the elements/cosmos/gods/desses in helping you to reach your goal.
As for deities, it can take a while. Try one for about a month and if you don’t feel it try a different one. I spent about 4 to 6 months finding my deities, sometimes going back and trying previous ones again, but I found the ones that work for me. It can take a while, but do not give up. You do not find the deity of your choice…you ask a deity to come to you. It may not be the one you asked for, but it is the one meant for you and your practice, at least at this stage of your development. Do not think that you have to remain “faithful” (such as organized religion, you have to stay with Allah, Jesus, Buddha, or whoever). As you grow and change, your practice will also, that is to be expected. Look at it this way…are all your favorite foods as a child, still your favorites as an adult? No, we all change, and the elements/gods/desses know that. It’s all good.

So, keep looking, and relax, do not beat yourself up. Take some time to clear out your head, meditate a little and start over…clean slate…hey, use the next couple weeks to clear your head and clean up your personal space (head and physical area) and prepare yourself to start over with Litha, the Summer Solstice? Just an idea.

Greetings Crescentia,

Timing is everything. It seems at this time it’s more important that you go through some things on your own. There may be some experiences you need to have first before they decide you’re ready for their approach. Let them come to you instead, and have faith that they will! It’s not like they don’t know or don’t care. I would absolutely not interpret their silence that way.

Pagan deities don’t act like the abrahamic god. In non Abrahamic-paths much more emphasis is put on individual transformation. They’re not really the “hand-holding” types when it comes to helping their devotees through life. They are wonderfully reliable in many ways, but in general they take a more subtle approach.

What other elements have you established in your practice? Have you come into contact with your familiar, your ancestors? They tend to serve a more personal role closer to a guardian, and I think focusing on developing a relationship with them might be more beneficial if that’s what you’re looking for.

No-one’s path is the same. Radical transformations can and do happen, and I am a poster child of that if you want an example LOL.

Anyway I hope any of that puts your mind at ease and if you need any more guidance let us know. Consult the cards, your ancestors, your familiar and you’ll find your path forward. :lotus:

Welcome to the Forum!

Do you have any G-d you feel at all connected to now? One from childhood perhaps?

I was raised Roman Catholic and that upbringing has influenced my Pagan path more

than I would have imagined. From the Goddess expressed in Mary to Patron Saints.

I found a Goddess and a Patron Saint and a Familiar all within the Abrahamic framework

seen from a Pagan perspective. Now I’m a ‘blended’ Pagan+Noachide. So strange my path!

ADDED: Also, the Goddess cares less about what name you call Her by, which is why

she has none popularized like the Abrahamic G-d Name. She cares more about what’s

in your heart than in the label you use in prayer. All names are part of Her in some way.

Well said.

I also leave offerings as thanks in general, which is a pagan/shinto practice.
