What's up with the tower card?

I’ve been doing tarot for a grand total of two weeks, maybe a couple days more. The first card I ever pulled was the tower. Yesterday I got the tower again but reversed. I went through all my cards face up before putting them away to make sure they were right way up assuming it was something I’ve done while shuffling. Understand that I shuffle and mix the cards up obsessively for a couple of minutes while I’m focusing on my question. Today the tower card came up again, and again it was upside down. What the flibertygibbet is happening? What does it mean?

Thoughtful Thursday Jenny,

This is what I had posted for the Tower. I hope this helps.

Tarot today is a look at The Tower number 16 Major Arcana.

Like Death and Devil, this is a scary card but does not have to be. Looking at the iconography we see lightning striking the tower, it’s on fire, people are falling, and the crown has been thrown off by the lightning, which looks like authority is in question,

Sounds and looks ominous! However, check the bottom of the picture, even though the tower is on a cliff, it is not falling down. The key-words are destruction, ruin and shake-up. I like shake-up a little more because it is not total destruction. I use the phrase “foundational shift”, the structure is changing, in a drastic way, but it is still standing.

So, bad news, of course, changes will be happening and probably quicky and/or drastic.

Good news, things will be changing, but all will not be lost, the base is still there.

Maybe there was a mistake made at work (foundational shift) but your job is still intact.

Many ways to see this card as good even though it looks scary.

This is very helpful and encouraging. I have a learner stack and so it suggested with the tower upside down that I am resisting change (even the universe thinks I’m a stubborn ass). Do you have thoughts on when the card is reversed?

The Reversed Tower often asks you to look at yourself honestly and make gradual adjustments. It carries the message “this can’t stay as it is”, but that doesn’t automatically mean chaos or catastrophe. So when you pull the Tower reversed on yesterday, it means you’re gradually reshaping your own path. And it can be internal or external changes.

Thankful Thursday Jenny,

I’m fairly new at this myself. I found reversed cards to be a little difficult to understand. I first used my deck with all cards turned upright. You can feel the intent of the card by its placement. I have started to use reversed cards. If it comes out reversed, I finish all the cards in the spread and then see if it makes sense in the reversed position or turn it upright.
When I was starting, I believed it is more important to understand the upright meanings of the card first, so as not to confuse myself with all the different definitions of each card. As I get a good understanding of the card, the reversed ones are starting to make more sense.

It all comes down to what everyone says about the cards. Intuititon.

Ha! You’re learning that the cards have a life of their own! I always shuffle my cards so that they always stay facing one way. Doesn’t matter. They’ll turn to reversed position if it’s important to the message. :lotus:

[ Edit: And don’t get me started on repeat cards and repeating reads! lol ]

A mind of their own and apparently they are inclined toward nagging…. I think I’ve figured out what they’re getting at, finally. It remains to be seen how courageous I am willing to be. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Oh this is my favorite interpretation so far and offers some optimism and encouragement. I think I think I finally know what the cards are getting at. Thank you!
