What can i use to replace candles?

i’m a baby witch and since I don’t live in my own house, i have to abide by rules, one of which is no burning things, i love candle magic, but how can i replace them?

It kinda depends on what you’re using the candle for. If it is to represent Fire, then an LED candle, lantern (unlit), or even just an unstruck match would represent the element well. Other fire symbols that have nothing to do with candles…salamanders, upward pointing triangle, red stones, etc.

As a source of light, and vibrant energy, you could substitute with lightbulbs of different colors - obviously, not a good idea to stare into a bare bulb, but if you used either low wattage bulbs or a paper-lantern style shade, you could create a similar effect. Decorative incandescent bulbs can also produce the more natural wavelengths of light, and in the amber color can easily represent fire. Some come in flame shapes as well.

Also, if that rule doesn’t apply to incense, you could use that to represent fire as well.

Best or luck!

Paper lanterns are a really cool idea, Wren! Thanks for sharing it, I never would have thought of it but now…oh, the possibilities :magic_wand:

Old post, but can’t resist replying, as I love thinking outside the square: you can use coloured cotton and threads, or even wool. This way you can weave your spells.

You can buy different coloured bells - allowing you to invoke the elements of air with them instead of fire.

Even different coloured pens or markers can be used to write down your spells.

And the reason I keep saying colours is so that you can include colour correspondences in your work.

Myself, I use LED candles. For safety.

They’ve gotten quite good lately, even simulating flicker of a flame.

The larger ones, that use AAA batteries, not the small ones with coin battery.

The color is usually always a shade of Orange, but the body of the ‘candle’

comes in many colors. I got mine, like a half-dozen now, from resale shops.

So IDK where they are sold, or I’d linky.

OH, reminds me, they sell candelabra bulbs with flicker effects.

Not a filament, but two plates with neon gas inside.

When I built a Ner Tamid, that’s what I used.
