My young daughter has recently passed away due to a terminal illnessand I have a small antique deskwith pictures, flowers and some other small items of hers. I have always just used whatever candles I had available but lately feel like I should be using a certain color of candle ? I feel like when the candles are lit they are almost like a beacon and definitely dont want to attract any negative spirits. Any suggestions?
Hi @Joshua. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I don’t know much about candle magic since I am a beginner witch and haven’t really been able to focus on the craft lately; however, I have heard that white is a good, all-purpose choice. Another idea could be to just follow your intuition and pick a candle color that feels right. Even if it doesn’t align with standard candle color meanings, the color may bear a different meaning - perhaps your daughter’s favorite color, or another candle that you feel will help your rituals. I hope that you find something that works for you
Yellow is the colour of communication. If you reach out to your daughter. Burning a yellow candle will help facilitate the coming together of you and your daughter’s Spirits. Burning adittional other colour candles can invoke their energies. Black to empower your intent and white to protect against Dark.
Thank you so much for your advice!
I will definitely try the yellow candles with the black which is coincidentally (maybe) lol the color of bumble bees which she loved!
Historically, candles didn’t come in colors till the 19th century. You could use any candle its your intention that has meaning. You could pick her favorite color. She would love that. Im sorry for your loss. We lost our daughter in 2018.
Im so sorry for you as well, it never gets any easier I dont think especially on bdays and anniversary dates. Thank you for your input and yes since I posted this question ive learned that intention is the key over color.
Hi. I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I recently lost my mother and have done the same thing, as far as an altar for her (or rather, I converted my altar for her). I don’t disagree with any of the previous suggestions. I have tried (not always successfully) to match my candle color as closely as possible to the color on the Great Wheel of Life that matches the dates we are in. It’s just something I do to pay tribute to her (my Mom) but also to continue on my path. Again, you have my deepest condolences.
Thank you for your response, my sympathy for your loss. Ive yet to lose a parent and cant even imagine how hard that must be. From the responses im getting it seems that it is more of a personal preference a far as candle colors unless you are trying to conjure.
Yes, it certainly is. Magick, energy, and connecting are such personal businesses. It’s whatever gives you the most strength. I would imagine that there are many reasons one might choose a certain candle color; maybe someone feels strongest with black, red, or white candles… It’s your feelings and your connection.
Blessed be!
