Hello, I’m Violet and I am returning to the witchy path after many years. It was all very important to me in my teens and early 20s but I sort of fell away from it and mostly lived as a jaded atheist for the past almost two decades. I am still nontheist, but started reading on Buddhism and paganism again a few years ago during a depressive period and remembering how helpful I found spirituality before.
I would consider myself a kitchen witch, and am actively working on learning my own associations with herbs, vegetables, and flowers, and love tending my small kitchen garden. I worked as a pastry chef for years and currently work freelance on recipe development and food photography, and hope to make a seasonal kitchen witch cooking zine starting this autumn. (I struggle with art that isn’t made of food and would be very open to a collab if anyone is interested.) I also love tea and often do little meditation rituals with it.
I have been working on sort of self-improvement projects by the moons, setting intentions on the new moon and in accordance with what each full moon ‘means’ and have really been enjoying it. Keeping with the kitchen witch theme, I have been making little spell bowls with all the dried herbs and other ingredients I have on hand, and lighting a chime candle in a cast iron tea cup, then burying the herbs and beeswax in my garden. I’ve never been big on ‘spells’ but I do love the physical act of intention setting like this, and would like to make my cooking more intentional and 'crafty, too. My project for the upcoming Strawberry Moon is to start working on the zine and feel less abject terror at getting my thoughts out in a creative way.
I used to spend a lot of my time on forums and small blogs and have been trying to get back into that sort of small web (and zine) vibe, too, having been fully burned out on social media and what the internet has become, so I would LOVE to hear about anything fun you’ve found on the web lately. I have a very small blog I’ve been updating on the new and full moons just to get myself back into the habit of sharing for fun instead of engagement.
I definitely miss the pagan book collection I finally gave up surprisingly recently after not opening them for years, and would also love to hear about your favorite books. I tended to me more into spirituality and lifestyle (crafting home altars, green and hedge witchcraft) books rather than lists of spells and correspondences, but also I haven’t shopped for pagan books since about 2007 and have no idea what’s considered popular now. Any names to seek out or avoid would be helpful.
