So yesterday me and some friends went out paddle boarding on a lake we all love, and for a while there I was lying on my board just absorbing the energy from the elements around me, and I got to thinking of the opposing kinds of energy the elements can have.
Water is, I think, obvious. Water is the element of change, after all. The energy of a lake is different from the energy of a river is different from the energy of ice. Water can be calming or threatening, for example stormy ocean waves are some of the scariest things imo. Water cleanses, but it can also be stagnant. Ice and steam are cold and hot respectively. It’s an element of shifts and changes, and it’s also probably the element I’m most familiar with as a Pisces haha.
Air is also, I think, understandably fluid. It’s communication, but it’s also thought. It can blow away obstacles or be an obstacle itself. TBH air is probably the element I struggle the most to connect with, mostly I think because it’s so ephemeral and impossible to pin down. It’s literally always changing by nature.
Earth I think is the most stable element. It’s grounding, present, supportive. But in certain circumstances, is it not also stifling? Can it not be an element of secrets, and can a rock thrown not break as well as it can support? I think, when Earth isn’t being grounding, it can be destructive.
Fire is the one I really had a breakthrough on yesterday, though. For me, until literally I was laying on my board in the sun, fire has always been the element of action and power. I imagined harnessing the power of fire and the sun as necessarily energizing. But I realized, lying in the sun is also relaxing. It’s warming and comforting. I already had a dichotomy of fire being destructive and life bringing, but it is also energizing and calming. I want to be warm when I go to sleep. A campfire is mesmerizing and meditative. Lying in the sun relaxes as much as it motivates.
IDK, I just really love elemental magic, and wanted to share about my meditations and thoughts. I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts about it as well! How do you interpret the element’s energies? Are they always the same, or ever-changing? What element do you feel most closely connected to?
