Mabon Altar curiosity, any feedback?

Hi my beautiful community

I have a question for you all. A few days ago I made my very first Mabon altar, and I absolutely loved both the process and the main ritual. For my next working, I added three taper candles dressed the same way, with cinnamon.

Here’s what happened:

  • I had a red, a pale pink, and a khaki candle.

  • The red one burned completely differently than the other two, it dripped all over and melted about four times faster.

  • Toward the end, something fascinating happened: the cinnamon began to act like a second wick, creating a double flame. At the base of the flame, there was this little pool of smoke that danced and lingered inside the flame’s base instead of rising upward like normal smoke.

  • Almost at the bottom, the wick broke off with a chunk of wax, which extinguished the main flame, but the cinnamon kept burning until the candle was fully consumed.

Meanwhile, the other two candles took around five more hours to finish and barely dripped at all.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any insights or interpretations?

Hello MoonFyre (love that name),

Congrats on your first altar! :magic_wand: I agree the process of creating a new altar is one of my favorite parts of a holiday, it puts me in the spirit of the season and changes the atmosphere in the whole house. Cleaning up, not my favorite part though I have perfected ironing wax out of a carpet.

Cinnamon, especially powered, is flammable so that may explain why it behaved like a second wick. It can even cause flash fires. As far as how the candle burned, that is absolutely fascinating and must have been something to watch.
