Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice about a situation involving a friend of mine.
Her ex apparently put a spell on her for the second time. The first time, he actually admitted that he had cast a love spell on her. This time, however, he hasn’t admitted to anything.
Recently, my friend had a dream where an old woman approached her, handed her a needle, and told her that she had a spell on her. Since then, she has been wondering whether this could be some kind of sign.
So, I wanted to ask about spell-breaking in general. What are some traditional ways of breaking, removing, or cleansing yourself from a spell? I’m not only asking about love spells, but about curses, harmful spells, or unwanted magic in general. Are there any traditional cleansing, protection, or banishing practices that people here would recommend?
There is also something else that concerns us: her ex has a passport-style photo of her and one of her personal diaries. Could personal belongings, photographs, or something written by the person be used in this kind of magic?
I’d really appreciate hearing about traditional practices or experiences from people who know about witchcraft. Thank you!
There are some relevent spells on this website that might be helpful.
I don’t have a ton of experience with this, but the thing with spells in general is that they have to speak to the person casting them. You might find one in a book for exactly the issue you’re dealing with, but if the elements involved don’t “do it” for you, it probably won’t work as well as if they did.
For example, if a spell says to burn a red candle to ignite passion but red represents anger to you, then I’d say choose a different colour.
If I was in a situation like the one you described, I’d ask myself: what represents the breaking of power to me? What colour(s)? What symbol(s)? What concept(s)? What element(s)? What’s an image I could hold in my mind’s eye?
Spells created by other people can be a good jumping-off point, but should definitely be tweaked to fit you and your situation.
I also recently picked up Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Correspondences, which I’m finding really helpful.
I wonder where these ideas come from, like why certain colours are associated with healing for example. I’m sure in a lot of cases there are significant origins, but I’m equally sure that often the correspondences we believe in aren’t based on anything other than an idea some random person had once. Does that make them worthless? I don’t think so, unless they run contrary to common sense or an association we already hold. It’s the connection made in the mind and heart of the spellworker that matters most, not what some book written by a so-called expert says.
Objects that are meaningful to a person can definitely create a link to them. Is there any way your friend can get her stuff back safely? If not, breaking any connection to them could be part of a spell you or her work.
To start, I would do a protection and grounding spell.
I have what I call a DOME spell–
Make your consecrated space, in your fashion,
and when you are ready (incense, candle, mirror, moon, water, your way) consecrate this phrase in your own way–
*I erect a DOME to be my temporary HOME.
D-don’t
O-oppress
M-my
E-energy
Then use it as needed. Say it daily as an affirmation; use it in an emergency (which I have, I was almost accosted at a bus stop and repeated -DOME-DOME-DOME, be my temporary HOME-…as soon as the person passed, the fear ceased and the DOME was no longer needed). This is great for protection. Grounding can be as simple as placing your feet firmly on the earth (barefoot) and feeling the power of the Universe going from Head to Toe and keeping you in alignment. Imagine a string being pulled through you, head to toe and being one with the Earth.
