When I go out hunting, I prefer to go out at night, so I can blend in to my surroundings better. I usually hunt in alleyways, the forest or in public parks. The last one in particular can be a little annoying because at that point, it’s about blending in. Sometimes it can be a little annoying to throw a spell at a foe, only to make it look like a stretch half way through the cast.
Another thing, I use bound weapons so I’ll be deep into a fight, only to notice someone looking at me like I’m crazy. So I’m left two choices: continue to look crazy or stop and risk the creature or spirit running away. The latter is the worst because that happened once to me.
Lastly is just making sure that the person doesn’t accidentally get hit by one of my spells. Some of my spells tend to have an explosive effect be it pyromancy, sorcery or incantations(lightning or light spells). I’m aware it’s spiritual, but I don’t want to run the risk of harming an innocent persons spirit. At this point, I’m not sure if I should make it more public info of what I do, maybe get a gig as an exorcist or something, or just keep it on the hush hush like it is now.
No, the bound weapons are strictly spiritual so it’s invisible to the normal eye, as to not have people panic. I do carry a knife but I don’t use that for hunts, strictly self defense related.
I do know martial arts some tai chi, so I’ll do some arm movements or stretches to blend in public, when I sling spells. I could always go the “I’m just practicing” approach when asked.
Wearing black is a wardrobe staple of mine, since I just like the color lol. So it does make it easier to blend in. Nights are preferable since evil spirits tend to come out more. Daylight hunts are very rare.
Sounds like a difficult situation. Currently it seems the greatest risk is if one person continues to see you “acting weird” they may call the cops at some point for trespassing, suspicious behavior, etc. On the other hand, if you went public you may have to get a permit to legally work in certain spaces and I don’t know how difficult that would be in your city.
I worked as a medium for a time, but I only ever worked in places I had personal permission to go into - people’s homes, public businesses, etc. So I never had to get any permits.
I’m not sure I fully understand your practice either. The only “combat” scenarios I’ve been in are either dealing with unsavory practitioners and tormented souls - and in the latter case, my interest was only to help them pass over. As far as demons go, my interest was only ever on getting them out and protecting the space, the inhabitants, or myself…
The practice is just hunting evil spirits, usually demons and other monstrosities that exists within the spirit realm. For tormented souls, I prefer to show them to the light, so they can be saved by their god or goddess of their choosing. It’s usually the Christian heaven, but there are instances of them choosing Olympus or the Æsir (Asguard) as their home.
Spirits are not limited to specific physical locations. You do not need to “hunt” them in a particular public park, or alley to make contact. You can reach a location through projection without being physically present.
Spirits also aren’t hanging out in a human public park. While spirits can be encountered anywhere, their presence is not concentrated in one random place. And they certainly won’t appear on demand or all the time that you need to go out hunting.
Effective spellwork requires process. At minimum, it involves a short few minutes of focus, directing intent, chanting and completing the casting. It is not something that is done instantly. And a properly constructed spell is targeted. It is aimed at a specific person including yourself, not indiscriminately “hitting” random bystanders who happen to be walking through the area.
This is true. I have a lovely list of spirits who have followed me home. (Until I got better with home defense HA!) Remote work can be challenging for beginners though.
More or less, also true… but it’s possible to delay the release of a spell after it’s been charged - essentially holding it at the “ready” like a cocked gun. It takes a ton of self-control and focus, but I’ve done it. That might be what he’s doing.
Yes, it is possible to delay a spell by holding its energy and releasing it only when you choose. This isn’t about self control, it’s a matter of knowing the technique and how to manage the working properly. But that is not what he meant. He meant firing off spells consecutively and instantly like pew pew pew because he said he was in the middle of a fight. As I explained above, that isn’t realistic. A spell requires time to cast.
Adding a deliberate delay on top of the casting process makes it slower still. In the context he described, that would be tactically poor, because your suggestion would turn him into a sitting duck in the middle of it. Even if he followed your suggestion, you still can’t realistically hold a bunch of spells and hold them indefinitely until a target appears. And again, spells don’t just hit random people who walk by.
This is precisely what my first impression was but I wasn’t certain so that’s why I posed my response as a hypothesis - a possible explanation for what he was already doing, for clarity. I wasn’t referring to “fast-paced-combat” in the way you describe, lol.
I will also reiterate - as a Medium, my work was not “hunting” - as in, it did not involve that kind of combat. My work largely consisted of providing a means of helping lost souls cross over. On the extremely rare case of dealing with anything nastier than that, my line of thinking always was: contain, control, banish. An approach that’s perhaps more in line with the SCP Foundation containment code, if we want to stick with videogame references lol.
Also correct. If your focus and intent are on the correct target, there should be no “splash effect” or anything of the like. It seems he misunderstands that aspect of spellwork.
