Hi everyone ! You can call me Yami and I go by she/they ! I’ve never used forums before and super anxious so bear with me
I say kinda newbie because I have always been drawn to witchcraft, but periodically throughout my life bc I could never stay consistent I mean like from playing outside in the woods and making “potions” to doing actual spells with intent in like middle school but having no clue what I was doing loll I am more educated now but I know I still have MUCH to learn, from memorizing tarot and all the colors, symbols, crystals, etc.
I mainly just call myself a pagan witch since I have never discussed this topic deeply with anyone else and don’t know what I would fall under ? I work with Hekate mainly and I have many questions about her too ! Also I don’t know how much to share on here ? I’m just very cautious of my energy but like am I too overly cautious ?
ANYWAYS I hope to make many friends here and learn more !! I would love to have people to talk about witchy stuff with more !
I’m Jasper, also pretty new here! I’m a pagan who follows Epicurean philosophy (Epicurus is my favorite Greek philosopher, and Epicurean beliefs are basically if it’s causing you distress, it’s not a good belief.)
Just from this, to me, it seems like you might fall under the witch umbrella more, as colors, symbols, and crystals fall under witchcraft, while paganism is more nature and deity based. But don’t let me tell you who you are- just like in the LGBTQ+ community, the importance of a label is more what it means to you than what it means to anyone else.
Speaking of LGBTQ+, I’m also part of the community! Aroace and genderqueer, not sure what pronouns yet so all nb pronouns are good. That’s why I go by Jasper on here- I’m trying out a preferred name. I’m just really nervous about talking about being queer on online spaces, as not all people are friendly. But as far as I’ve seen here, everyone is friendly and accepting!
Just don’t share personal details like where you live or names of people involved in situations! Many people on this forum ask for advice for situations and just don’t provide names to protect privacy. If you need advice on a situation and aren’t sure how to refer to the people involved, (and if you’re like me and prefer an example), how people refer to other people involved in their situation in AITA on Reddit is a pretty good example. Just don’t do others’ names and your address and you’re good!
It’s nice to see a new witch on the forum and im happy you shared your pronouns!
Im personally gender-fluid so I go by all pronouns but if your not sure and just want a evrey day pronoun for me xi, xir is a good start!(sorry very off topic my bad)
You should check out our website it has very knowledgeable and easy to understand info for beginners from all practices!
As far as what you call yourself, I agree with Jasper and others who say that what matters is what you think and feel about the label you give yourself. I think labels are highly overrated, overused, and mostly unnecessary. I will form my opinions based on one’s behavior and attitude, not on what they call themselves or what others may call them. Labels may be handy for basic informational purposes but in reality, say very little about who the person is.
I use deity from different pantheons based on what work I am doing at the time, mostly Celtic, but I do really like Hekate for certain work. It’s good that you recognize the need to be open to learning new things. I think those who seem to think they know it all are boring at best and often quite unbearably obnoxious.
You are wise to be cautious. I have never found anyone on this forum that caused me to have any negative thoughts or feelings about their motives. I’m sure there are a few secondary agendas, but nothing harmful. I talk about whatever I feel like talking about. My only consideration is that I strive to keep the comments pertaining to the thread. I can’t imagine anyone here giving you the least bit of negativity about anything. All I have experienced is positive feedback and support.
Glad you could join and welcome to our pack !! Here are my suggested books to start with.
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham**a very easy read.
Buckland’s Complete Book of Witchcraft (Affectionately called Buckland’s Big Blue) by Raymond Buckland**this is almost like a workbook, with little exercises at the end of each chapter. This book is a little more in-depth than Scotts book and explains a little about the different Wiccan “denominations” if you will.
A Witches Bible: The Complete Witches’ Handbook by Janet and Stewart Farrar** this is very ritualistic and is Gardnerian Wicca. This explains in-depth the rituals of Wicca.
These are good starting points for books. Let me know if you have any other questions. If you are interested in tarot I have a thread called Tarot Talks June 2026, please join.
