Hi everyone, I’m Sue, I’m 72 (although I still think I’m 42) and I’ve been interested in tarot, crystals and spiritualism for about 40 years now. Recently I’ve become much more involved, mainly because I started journaling, concentrating first on the wheel of the year and astrology. I read tarot and have about 10 decks (I lose count!). My current favourites are the Light Seers Tarot and the Witches Tarot.
Merry Meet Sue, and welcome to the group.
Welcome to the Forum!
Good to see experienced practitioners join! We have a lot of elders and newbies and everything in between!
I’m more on the newbie end of experience, only 1 year.
HELLO, NICE TO MEETCHA, I’m sure you’ll have tons of fun over here!
Super Sunday Sue,
Welcome to the pack
!! I have decided to become more “intimate” with my tarot. I never knew how much fun they would be!!![]()

Hi Lady-Gene.
I used to read my tarot decks, relying on the meanings laid out in the books. About three years ago I had lessons in intuitive reading from a friend and it is so much easier - I love it.
I need to find someone local who does readings, like professionally,
and maybe learn a bit in person from them.
Knowing a local reader or finding one you trust online, in my opinion, is essential. Sometimes doing your own readings isn’t the best option - like if it’s on a topic that’s too emotionally charged or you can’t be impartial on. ![]()
He Who Acts as His Own Doctor Has a Fool for a Patient
I asked my Coven a while back for recommendations,
they didn’t have anyone local that still was in the business anymore.
OMG That made me laugh so hard! ![]()
I don’t have any local readers I go to either. (I did in Cali though.) I have a good relationship with a few on Etsy that I vetted for legitimacy. If you want I can send you a short-list of those! ![]()
Yes please! There’s store-fronts here that have ‘Mediums’ but no way to know if any good,
and while in-person is best I don’t mind someone online if I think they have a way to ‘Read’.
(but I’m no expert of course)
Oh my gosh, there’s so many things you have to look out for - both in person and online! The number of frauds are unreal. I’m great at reading other readers - but I have a unique advantage there. LOL
Sure thing! I’ll send you a PM later. ![]()
I can vouch for all the teachers and readers on this website as I know them personally. They do online lessons and are excellent. They’re in the UK though so may not suit timings for people in the US. Just search for Feather and Flame tarot.
What are some signs that the practitioner is legit?
It depends a little on the type of reader you’re looking for.
If you’re just looking for a standard Tarot reader for casual fun readings or something it’s not so hard.
But if you’re looking for an authentic Medium that’s where you have to really vet them a lot.
There’s a ton of things to look for.
- They advertise that they’re not AI Readers, and they use no AI imagery in their ads.
- They don’t ask for a ton of highly valuable personal information on you, like your exact D.O.B., personal photos, etc. An authentic reader worth their salt needs very little info.
- They charge a reasonable amount for what they offer. Not extraordinarily over-priced.
- They emphasize honesty in their ads, not fluff readings.
- They have ample positive reviews that are written out thoroughly by real people.
- They offer full in-depth readings in addition to shorter ones. Extra points if they can do cold readings as that’s the most solid sign they’re an actual medium. (Still gotta make sure they pass all the other tests though.)
- A vibe-check and reading pass. This one’s subjective and boils down to intuition and you doing a reading on the medium. This is limited on your own abilities though.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Those are the markers I look for. ![]()
Hello,
welcome to the Forum. Don’t worry about age, I’m already approaching 70 and I feel like I used to. There are others in the Forum who are approaching 70, so welcome. You’re in the right place here.
Best wishes for health!

I’ve also read that a true medium will say stuff you don’t necessarily like, rather than just flatter or promise all your dreams will come true. Unfortunately, that’s not something you know until the reading is over.
