I’ve been reading up on the topic of grimoires and I’ve seen its pretty common for people to bless their books either as a means of protecting what’s in it or as a means of setting intention, etc. So I’m curious to see what that might entail for others. I’m also aware that a lot of the time these books aren’t books or journals as such, for example I’ve seen people use a digital book of shadows, or I think I saw someone use index cards. So I’m curious for these less common forms how it’s done too.

My BoS usually just turns into a journal for convos with my familiar. I write pretty big in those,
so I grab spiral notebooks from resale shops for a tenth of the normal price and use those
after a smudging of a stack of them to remove whatever garbage from school got in them.
Sometimes if it’s something I may post here or elsewhere, I’ll open a text file on the PC.
I usually leave my PC running for google searches or such eJournals so it’s ready for that.

I am of the opinion that blessing and/or consecrating items is completely up to you, “that’s the beauty of the program”, the Craft is completely individualized. I consecrate my wand and my divining cards, [tarot and lenormand]. Since I live in Vegas, I do many things with the sun, so I place these items in the sun for 1 hour (15 min or less in summer, we are so hot 
). For all the other things I use, it just depends on how I feel about it.
For my BOS I use a small 3-ring binder that holds the 1/2 size paper, so that I am able to change it as my practice, need, and wants change. I am not stuck with one single book, that I would have to discard [I always travel light], I have one book that changes with me, and comes with me. Sounds win/win to me 
.
If at anytime something feels off-kilter, I put it outside in the sun to be cleansed/consecrated, that’s it.

All tools used in my practice are ritually blessed and purified using a combination of smoke cleansing, sound, and sacred chants from my tradition.
What I use is technically not a grimoire - there are no spells or witchcraft in it, but I have a collection of grimoires from over the years from my older practices that do have spells, etc.
Like Sedim, most of my old grimoires are just notebooks. Yes, cheaper options are better because trust me, if you’re in it for the long haul they’re going to build up over time!
There’s something poetic to me about getting recycled composition notebooks too, lol. I’ve always loved this brand for their designs: https://decomposition.com/
What’s in it now is mostly a collection of notes from reading the ancient texts of my tradition, but also my tradition’s core philosophy and ritual practice. Maybe you could still call that a grimoire on some level, idk LOL. There are definitely things that bear a resemblance to witchcraft… I keep a separate meditation journal as well.

I’m not really sure what to call my book other than book. I think of Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus, “booookkkkk”. I use it for my chants/spells and other information such as retrogrades, the goddesses that I use, phases of the zodiac for the sun and moon. Just the one book, but all my notes organized, and with the loose-leaf pages, I can add, remove, or change around the book anytime I need to. I have a regular sized binder with loose-leaf paper that I use as my tarot journal and keep other notes in there as well. This is as far as my “journaling” of any type, goes with the Craft. As I have said other places, I like to travel light, I keep everything as simple and portable as possible.

That’s actually really interesting. Nialas is actually Irish Gaelic for zero, and it’s a pun because one of my chosen names in Nia, fun fact about the origins of the username!
I figured as much which is why I was curious as to how you all do things differently. You’re practice using the sun is really interesting and I like the idea of the binder.
Ooh yeah that’s a good point. I loved decomposition’s notebooks but they don’t ship to Australia (this seems to be a common issue of mine lol) .m.

Love it that it is a pun for you. I am a poetess and love words, if you’ve noticed?
Being from Vegas, I have always loved the sun [I don’t even think it’s hot until it hits 105, but the opposite end, it is already cold, and jacket weather] and I’m an early riser, so why get up in the middle of night for moon work? So, that is why I do sun supplications.
I think I know what those are, but won’t a regular spiral notebook, with the hard paper cover suffice?
They aren’t too heavy, you can toss them if you wish? That is why I like the binder, to take out, rearrange, change the pages in any way. Then all you need to buy is paper and dividers.
