Books of Shadows

I’ve noticed everyone’s Book of Shadows seems to be as unique as each person is. Without divulging too much, how would you describe your Book of Shadows. I have two, personally. One where I keep content I find that inspires me, and another with all my personal content and instruction.

My Familiar helps me with that (what doesn’t She help me with?) and She has her own

journals of our channeling for the things She wants me to remember. (Automatic Writing)

Mine is knowledge with notes and rituals/spells.

Superb Saturday Grey,

I just got home for new stuff to make a new BOS (so this will only be my second one). So, not sure what I can tell ya, except…my first book was me discovering myself, mycraft, and where I was going. Now, I am making a book, sectioned, with what I deem is important and/or what I want to remember and not forget. So, yes, all BOS’ is as unique and individual as the one who makes it. Sounds like you already have a good handle on what you want (yeah, I know, my “slang” dates me)

Merry Meet

I have more than one book and the one most closely guarded has my personal spells, chants, incantations, and such. One is correspondences and one is miscellaneous notes, poems and ideas for spells. I actually only say BOS when I am talking with someone outside my inner circle. Otherwise, I just say, “my book” and everyone knows what I mean. To the best of my knowledge, I am the only one in the family to ever actually use the term Book of Shadows.

I use a similar strategy when people ask my “belief/faith” for those outside the circle, I am just Wiccan/Witch, to those who know…we can discuss deeper. Lady Gene :phoenix:

Personally I enjoy to keep mine as organized as possible so I can easily find information if I need it. I also keep just basic info in mine and have another book for spells, I just keep it there in case I forget what types of spells are best for which moon phase or if I need to know what herbs to use in a spell.

My response on the rare occasions when someone asks about my faith (or whatever) mostly depends on my mood and who asks. I like to give the old hippy response that I am a child of the universe and continue with some apparently acid-fueled dissertation on love and togetherness.

When we were replacing a second-story deck and all that was there was a door in the side of the house, a couple of suits made the mistake of waking me early in the day when I just got off of a night shift. I answered the upper door in my underwear with a 12-gauge shotgun and asked them what part of no trespassing and keep out they didn’t understand and if they really believed in life after death. I must say I highly recommend this approach - no one ever came up the driveway again, ever. Brightest Blessings!

Merry Meet Marcus,

 Reminds me of an episode of Frasier, where ex-cop walks behind someone robbing the 7-11 and says, “be smart, or be dead.”

I had to sleep with a 2x4 at my bed for years. My first husband thought it was okay to choke me in my sleep. His rationale was, “the Army gives you 5 minutes to wake up”. Referring that I had no reason to be mad at him because he wasn’t fully awake. Well, a hit by that 2x4 woke him faster than 5 minutes!!!:face_with_symbols_on_mouth: Lady Gene :phoenix:

What a strange thing to do and say.
I served too, but we had none of this ‘5 mins to wake up’ crap… but if someone woke you up and you hit them, that was the only time you couldnt be charged for hitting anyone regardless of rank.
We used to wake people with long sticks or the tip of our boots when not in barracks…

Wacky Wednesday Red,

He could not join the army because he was a pedophile. He considered himself a military buff. But, I think that was to hide his fear and sense of inadequacy. He made up that stupid “rule” to try and “snow” me. Because of him, my new family (2nd husband, 3rd child) know to only call my name until I wake up. A few times they have had to touch, they jump away real quick, because I come up swingin’!!! I usually gasp loudly as I quickly sit up, and I’m already swinging before I am fully sitting. So, I’m not in trouble for “knocking him upside the head” with a 2x4. I knew that was a lie, even back then. Lady Gene :phoenix:

I use a ring binder. Unconventional perhaps, but I endured trying to stay clean & organized with bound journals for about 18 years until convenience finally won the day!

When I was an occultist, I called it my Grimoire. It contained various pagan holidays, astrological dates, recipes, correspondences, rituals and a few favorite spells.

Hm.. but I think to reflect my new South Asian focused practice, I shall call it my Tome now. Yes, I like that… :sparkles:

Cheers. :lotus:

Had a cousin come back from nam woke him that way. PTSD. Slept with a Ka-Bar under pillow.

Yep. One of the Warrant Officers slept with a 9mm because of 'Nam.
I am not at that level, but hyper vigilent and light sleeper myself.

Omg, as a shaman you are absolutely right - that would be the perfect book for you! :joy: There’s got to be a replica someone’s made somewhere!

My father had a very conveniently timed work accident before he could get drafted. Conveniently timed as in the gods must have arranged it, because by what happened there’s no chance he did it intentionally lol.

I am unlocked now. How to do to send PMs between us?

Arg! Another over-zealous AI mod flag I’m sure, not ‘by the community’ is what I’ve seen past.

Draft ended just before I would have been in it. Like right before.
