Shamanism is humanities oldest belief system, going back to Hunter-Gatherer days.
Every tribe or village had one strange man or woman, who’s hut… and life… were off on the edge.
Eating strange things, talking to empty air… but they knew things. Things no one else knew.
Was this knowledge from spirits or the ancestors or thanks to an outsider’s perspective?
… when someone was sick, something the tribe’s wise women had no lore for… they were called.
Fabulous Friday,
Sedim, thank-you for the connect. Many people forget that doctors owe so much to shamans and magick.

Oh the nostalgia this is giving me lol. I had no idea that Jacob was moving into this topic too, I remember when all he did was cover Norse paganism lol. The fragility of these traditions is an unfortunate reality, and it’s a complicated topic when it comes to preserving them.
Shamanism, if treated as a general term akin to paganism, is the original world religion, and essentially the science that led to all the modern sciences. As we studied the world, so did we start to study ourselves and begin to achieve true understanding. It’s a fascinating history.
Thank you for sharing these!
A very good channel, much wisdom. Except the Lice thing, sorry not…
I have on a necklace much like his, but I would never wear that bracer.
Out of respect, to not seem like ‘appropriation’
I don’t call myself a shaman. But aside from trance work which I do not practice, I engage in everything else shamans do. For that reason, I think it’s just one that has a personal connection to what people often refer to as “shamanism” or not.
True, many follow the Shamanic Path without calling it that. I think I did mention that
the ‘Hedge Witch’ is basically identical, but mostly a female witch label. I forgot to post this:
Hi All, I’m Native American and new here. Shamanism means a lot to me and has been a big part of my healing and healing from the intergenerational trauma inflicted by government genocide, policy, etc. that we still see the effects of in my Native community. Nice to meet you all.
Welcome to the Forum!
Feel free to share your experiences. Perhaps on a new thread, this one is a General topic.
Are you a healer, or part of any Shamanistic group?
I’ve been taken under the wing of a couple of my local elders that have been teaching me how to facilitate some of the ceremonies and the teachings to prepare to be a pipe carrier… basically to be able to do the pipe ceremony and help others with their healing. It’s been a big part of my healing re-connecting with my culture, taking part in shamanism, ceremony, and especially decolonizing myself and my way of thinking.
Nice to meet you all.
I love animism / Shamanism as a belief system, but I hate the gatekeeping by groups who claim you have to study with them or join their group or buy into their “brand” to be considered “real”.
There are two ways to become Shaman. Long years of apprenticeship to a master…
the other way? Ego death, The Dark Night of the Soul. I don’t recommend path #2,
as it’s the one I found myself on. Without my Familiar, I’d be lost or worse by now.
I been there, done that…although it’s such subject experiences that I don’t know if I cross any invisible lines that say “you made it” or if my own dark nights of the soul were someone else’s wistful evenings.
While I have lots of pets, I don’t consider any of them to be my familiars, so maybe I should explore that.
