There are so many ways to practice your craft. You need to determine what you intend to do with it. I use it mainly for my self. I rarely do hexes or curses. I believe in Karma and feel what you put out comes back. I use it to enhance my life. Then you look for things that interest you. Candles, plants, herbs, nature, crystals… so many ways to explore the craft. Then read, and read some more. Play around a little. There is no ONE way to play.

I used to go to Witch fares and gatherings many years ago, events open to everybody, featuring talks, lectures, stalls (pagan books, clothes etc) where you could just chat to pagans and learn various things…My favourite used to be Whitchfest International in London, but there are still many others in the Midlands and in the West of the UK. I don’t know where you are based, but I understand such events exist all over. it’s amazing how many tips you can pick up from strangers at such places about paths to follow, books to read. And often you ‘just know’ what to do next…

My advice is this: you do not need to rush to cast a spell or connect with a deity. Most important is to research as much as you can. Learn as much as you can. After you learn about Wicca and Norse Paganism and Folk Magic among others, then you will have a much better idea as to what path you want to start on. Learn the basics of witchcraft first. Learn grounding, warding and banishing.
I also teach beginner witches and hell them begin their journeys. I tell them that if they just want to learn witchcraft to cast a quick love spell or a money spell that this isn’t where they belong. I advice them to find someone to do a spell for them. The reason for this is because learning witchcraft takes a lot of time. It’s a lot of research, tons of journals and binders, and every day there is more to learn. It is hard work to actually learn witchcraft and to become a seasoned practioner, it is by no means fast or easy. But if you want to put in the work it is well worth it many times over

I started my journey when I was 4 years old my grandmother was always surprised when I woke in the morning, or after a well-needed nap, telling her about things that seemed truly odd to her. A year later, I started school. Mid-semester, I told her on a Friday that there would be a new student in class on Monday. She didn’t believe me even though I described him to a ‘t’…then I got my school pictures and there he was, just like I described him. I was 8 when she started teaching me more advanced things after I asked her about an old picture she had. I wanted to know who the woman was that walked off camera just as the picture was taken. It turned out that it was a woman she never forgotten. The woman had scolded my dad and aunt for being so rambunctious at the community picnic and my grandmother took great offense at it. And for that reason, pictures have always fascinated me. I’ve been on this journey for 63 years and have taught my nieces with my sisters’ permission. I had sons and none were interested in learning when they were younger, but now they have begun asking questions.

Greetings, Witchyflower…
Begin by making your own broom. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just make it, if it falls apart, remake it. Take your time and be purposeful. Make it with a clear mind, no worrying about life’s drama. Your energy - good or bad - will flow into your broom, so you want the good energy. Always clean your space, smug sticks work really well, but your own broom works even better. You don’t have to sweep as you would with a regular broom, just make the motions and sweep out the negative energy. Go through your entire house, room by room, from the front door, along one wall, all the way through the house until you end up back at the door, sweep the negative energy out the door, and off the porch, if you have one.

And stay away from Quija boards. They are not a good tool to use. Yes, they work. But they can cause things to happen that you won’t know how to deal with, being a young witch. I know from personal experience that the boards do work, quite well, I knew when I was 12 who I would fall in love with and marry…I married him when I was 21 and he died when 40 years later…just like the Quija board said, and it still didn’t prepare me for what I went through.

In truth, you don’t need any tools. All you need is yourself, you are the power, you have the power, tools are just aids to help you focus. Meditation will help you with that more than anything else and it will bring about prophetic dreams and thoughts that will surprise you. If you can visualize it, you can make it happen.

Take care, practicing witchcraft has repercussions. What you do can come back on you, or those you love.
