My last addition for the day:

Devil - A card that trips a lot of people up because the majority of us in the West think only of the Christian devil.

But as my own research has shown me from Eastern traditions, devil energy is distilled down to these words: obstacles, clinging, hunger, attachment.

Your example of the addict is good. But devil energy is pervasive in that it’s all the little obstacles and excuses we create for ourselves in our head. It’s irrational fears, trauma we refuse to let go of, clinging to narrow ideas, refusing to look at and address our problems. The ego overbloated and rampant. Greed, avarice, lust, insert your sin here. All is exemplified in the devil.

But even the devil card isn’t a card to be feared. Because darkness is banished by knowledge and light. The moment you address the devil, the moment you pull his card, he is made weaker, just as it will be as you address those forces in your life.

It’s interesting how much you learn about the devil in the East - you’d think he’s not there, but a form of him (Mara) is in Buddhism and you’d be surprised how much they say about him lol. :trident_emblem:

I am glad you understand the devil card and the fear it seems to produce here in Western conscience. I do not see it in the Judea-Christian way.

I have a little difficult with Temperance and Justice. What is your take on those 2 cards?

Terrific Tuesday Tarot Talkers,

For today, we will go to 18 The Moon. :first_quarter_moon:

Let’s see what “the book” says about this card. The book gives this card mostly as illusion.

It also gives mystery, wildness, and subconscious. I use illusion often, but I see this card more as a “fear of the unknown”. The dark scares many people and who rules the darkness, the moon. I see the dogs barking at the moon (as a warning bark) and the lobster coming out of the water ready to attack. I see agressivness out of fear. The iconography shows fairness, river dividing the picture in half, dog on either side, tower on either side, crab down the middle, The moon itself is even “equal”, part moon and part sun, but all the sentient characters are anxious/uptight. So, I see this card mostly as dog who is barking at the intruder, but is not quite certain what will happen. Fear of the unknown. That is how I basically see this card, but of course, take into account what else is happening in the read.

I would love to hear how anyone else looks at this card.

The Star - Yep, same. Faith, hope, promise - perhaps an early small sign of future progress or moving in the right direction. The star leads to the sun. They are the same card in a way, just one is literally and figuratively further away. A promise of a potential future sun as a full manifestation of something good.

The Moon - a card I associate with one of the primal forces divine feminine, the light or dark of intuition, the unknown, and illumination of things hidden in the dark - especially if viewed as a full moon. If seen as a dark moon I tend to read the card as a hiding of secrets - an illusion like you say, especially if the situation you’re reading for seems too quiet otherwise. The dark can hide a lot of activity going on in the shadows. The meaning of this card can change a lot depending on the context of the reading. The behavior of the animals reads to me as a reference to “lunatic” behavior - a reference to how the phases of the moon can appear to influence our emotions. :crescent_moon:

Temperance is the quality of patience and balance manifest within the self. I see it as an internal card that I primarily associate with equanimity and patience.

I see Justice as a benefactor of karma. A judge. The severity and royalty of the man on the throne symbolically shows his understanding of the seriousness of this subject. The sword he holds upwards as the ace of swords - a sign that a proper judge must hold truth and wield it’s blade as the highest standard. As judge holding the scales he also shows by example how mankind must honor and respect these forces.

Witchy Wednesday Wonders,

Tarot delving for today will be into the Major Arcana card 19 The Sun. The book tells me, radiance, authenticity, joy, illumination. Keywords on the card include positive, happy/fun/joy, success. I liken this card to The Fool, in that both are of innocence. I see The Fool as youthful innocence and a happy-go-lucky attitude. Where I see The Sun as a serious happiness; joy in what you have accomplished. Ah, like this, The Fool, joy in what the future holds (youthful optimism) whereas The Sun has the joy in the past, your success, pleasure, what makes you happy in your life. The Fool is what you wish for at the start of your journey, and The Sun sheds the joy of what you have accomplished at the end of the journey. The iconography on the RSW is completely positive, a white horse, a “bouncing baby boy”, a flowing banner, glowing sun and blooming sunflowers. It is The Sun, obviously Fire and Action, smiling, your actions were just right, accomplished what was needed. The number alone on the card 1+9=10 which goes down to 1 which is all good, fruition/completion, joy and success.

Well, that is about all the “glowing” I can do for The Sun (yes, yes, pun intended).

Well said Lady Gene! I don’t really have much to add to that. Like I said for the star - the sun is also like a progression from the star. Small hopes leading to full realization of happiness once success becomes manifest. Also another obvious Leo card or a solar deity card.

The sun is probably the easiest card to read in the deck, IMO. We all know how we feel after a long dark winter or a difficult night once we see the return of the sun.

Thoughtful Thursday Theologians, (Wed. nite, but I’ll be busy tomorrow)

To move on to the next card, Major Arcana 20 Judgement. Sometimes this may be difficult to understand, if only because of the title, Judgement. We think of a judge and a decision made regarding ourselves, but that belongs to the Justice card number 11.

Judgement is given with key-words, evolution, ascension, rebirth, absolution, progress, reckoning, awakening. These are all similar yes, but different at the same time, which actually allows this card much leeway in interpretation.

For myself, I usually see this card as progress, rebirth, awakening ( as in a sense of “born-again”).

The iconography reminds me of Revelations in the Bible of final trumpet blowing and people raising from the dead, but that is a Christian mind-set, image. That is why I use the 3 words progress, rebirth, awakening. I see it as maybe finally coming to your senses, seeing the light, the bell going off. Something finally making sense.

This is primarily how I see this card too. An easy card to get mixed up with Justice, but when you think of Judgement as a force or an action and not a person who’s an arbiter of justice, it makes it easier to see the difference.

For someone with my background, I see Judgement as the force of dharmic law upon reality - the engine that drives the motion of karma - like the energy behind rising, falling, balancing, correction, redemption, and reckoning.

Fantastic Friday Fanciful Friends,

We come to the last card of the Major Arcana, 21 The World. Fittingly, means completion, as we complete the major arcana.

Of course, there are more keywords: accomplishment, fulfillment, wholeness, celebration.

I like to stick with fulfillment and completion. Whatever you have done, wanted, gone through (all past options) has reached its culmination. Does not always mean a happy completion, just completed. For example, your children grow up and leave home, you are sad, why did this card show up now? Well, your job as a daily parent is “completed”, that part of your World has reached it’s fruition. Even though something is “ending” it is not over, it is just completed.

The Fool (0), Wheel of Fortune (10), Death (13), and Moon (18) also touch on endings/beginnings.

The other cards signify more of an ending to make room for new beginnings; whereas The World card speaks of and end of a cycle. A completeness that is has come to end.

I hope I did not sound too redundant.

I will start with June 29, Monday, here and will also copy it to start for July. Both threads will be open for a few days, while we transition to Tarot Talks July 2026 :sparkler:

So, Elements:
:wind_face: Air: Represented by the Swords, is for the mind…thought, intellect, learning

:fire: Fire: Represented by Wands, is for passion (fiery will)…actions, enthusiasm, movement- think what does fire do, it burns (transforms), creates, destroys, pushes, in essence it makes you take notice.

:ocean: Water: Represented by Cups, is for emotions…feelings, but do not get confused with intuition, which is considered a feeling of the mind (air/swords), water/cup feelings are emotional.

:globe_with_meridians: Earth: Represented by Pentacles is for resources…I prefer the word tangibles, the things that I can touch, that I have, that are “real”, other words are assets, responsibilities (you are responsible for the things that you have, home, job, kids, car…the tangibles). This word works for me.

I will make a completely different post for the meaning of the numbers.

Getting ready for Monday and July Tarot talks, I leave y’all with these last 2 posts to ready yourselves for next week.

Above are the Elements and what represents each element in tarot. Now I will tackle the meaning of the numbers 1-10. {xyz} will be my choice for the number

  1. Potential, possibilities {beginnings}
  2. Choice
  3. Growth, think 1 plus 1 [the first 2 cards] equals 3, (man and woman, equal child) {harmony}
  4. Stability
  5. Disruption {obstacle}
  6. Harmony (I know, this is my word for 3…3 cups harmony, 3 swords not harmony, 3 pent harmony [working together]) so for this number I see/use {relation to others}
  7. Predicament, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this, I have used “relationship to others”, “reflection”, “right choices”, I just cannot come up with one word for this one.
  8. Discipline, as in self-control, not punishment
  9. Fulfillment, you are reaping your rewards
  10. Culmination, completion and realization,

If you are into numerology there is more to look at with these numbers and cards.

To go to the Royalty-

  • Page- Earth, represent their suits aspect of grounding (remember they are the closest to the earth in the pictures and hierarchy). The page also represents Impetus.
  • Knight- Fire, represent the action and movement taken in their suit. The knight takes the ideas and energy of the page and puts it into motion.
  • Queen- Water, represents the divine feminine of their suit, the nurturing, reception, and comfort of their suit
  • King-Air, they take it all in and have it make sense (your mind)

The Queen and Kings used to represent female and male almost literally, with modern times letting people be more genuine with themselves, these 2 cards refer to the feminine and masculine energies.

Well, this will get us started for Monday the end of June and I will post this same thing to start the July thread of Tarot Talks.

Happy Friday Lady Gene!

The World is a card I’ve not always understood as a “culmination” or “ending” card in meaning - the Moon, Death and Wheel of Fortune make so much more sense to me. I suppose when you consider all the previous major arcana cards as somehow building up the entire experience of living in this world - or building the world itself, I guess it kind of makes sense.

The Buddhist perspective of the World is interesting. It’s kind of like a card of samsara - one in which all the cycles of life, birth and rebirth are experienced - a card that can be positive if you view these experiences as opportunities to learn - but negative if you allow yourself to be trapped by them and seek no release from these cycles.

I guess from that meaning it would be the culmination of a single cycle. But it’s not a final end truly - the beginning of a new universe will form - as that’s the nature of reality. But at the moment of this “end” when the card appears it gives the opportunity to see things from a bigger perspective. :trident_emblem:

I see the world as both ending and beginning, like a circle, like the wheel of fortune in a way.

Like with the cycle of birth and rebirth, the world would be one birth “ending” so that a new cycle “rebirth” will be able to start.

I like the take about being stuck in the negativity, but I would think that would fall more under the wheel of fortune card, you can choose to not be negative, and change your “fortune”.

It’s this similarity with the Wheel of Fortune and other “ending” cards that trips me up. Death could be seen as an ending of a life cycle. The Wheel of Fortune could be seen as the engine of the birth and rebirth cycle as well - and both beginnings and endings. What exactly is the difference between the endings of these other cards vs. the end of the World? lol

Great Question :exclamation_question_mark: :exclamation_question_mark: You had me thinking about why it was confusing, so I looked a little more in-depth, to see how that was happening. I could see how you would get confused. As I was looking at the different key-words, I found similar words that made it feel like another card. I tried to group them, with definitions and pointed out where similarities/confusions may occur.

I hope this help :wink:

0–The Fool–beginnings, start, innocence, trust (naivete), optimism, blind-faith, risk

10–Wheel of Fortune–life cycles, karma, luck, time, change, unpredictability, turning point (it moves, is a wheel), but also new beginnings (like 0-The Fool)

13–Death–Endings (so that a change…begin anew [yeah, confusing]), transformation/metamorphosis (like a cocoon, death, end for new life, like 0-The Fool), loss, letting-go, end-of-cycle (similar to 10-Wheel of Fortune)

21–The World–completion (ending like 13-Death), accomplishment, wholeness, fulfillment, arriving (to end, returning home from a trip…or to begin, like arriving at your destination), integration/culmination.

So, I can see how many of the keywords are similar and/or identical. I think you will know which word the card refers to in relation to, and because of, the other cards with it.

Wow! Thanks for putting so much time into this!

lol… you can see why I struggled! I guess the one difference I see from those lists of keywords is that the World seems to be referring to travel kind of - the integration, the arriving? Culmination for the purpose of integration, not necessarily transformation like in Death. Interesting… :thinking: that does help I think.
