Rite of the Mist
(I don’t remember where I got this. I liked it and made a few changes to suit myself.)
This is intended to be used on foggy/misty days.
Items needed:
Staff, Double spiral, Triskele, A gift to the faerie-folk. (Bread broken into pieces or a shiny coin or jewelry)
Properly prepared, don your ritual robe.
Relax, ground and center, and feel the mist around you and becoming part of you just as you are part of it. Know yourself to be in a place that is no place, in a time out of time. Enter the realm in-between, neither sky nor water.
Hold your Triskele in your hand and focus your awareness on your connection with the land and say;
“I firmly stand as one with the Land.”
Assume the Goddess position and become focused on the mist around you. Take your time and become part of it, then say;
“I am one with the sea than now surrounds me.”
Become aware of the sky above and around you, then say;
“I am one with the sky; the heavens on high.”
Become aware of all three realms and then say,
“As above, so below, as within, so without;
As beyond the veil I go, of this I have no doubt.”
Firmly tap your staff on the ground three times, acknowledging the land.
Hold your staff straight out from your working arm and turn deosil three times, cutting the mist, acknowledging the water. Wave your staff over your head three times, acknowledging the sky.
Face North; home of the lush green forests, favored by Tuatha de` Danann.
Draw the double spiral in the air with your staff and say:
“Lord and Lady of the Mist, Keepers of the Faerie-folk, I am here seeking knowledge of the mists and realms beyond the veil. I come in awareness of the Three Realms and in harmony with all. Keep me safe and from all harm as I travel here in the place that has no name. Guides of Tuatha De`, Protectors of the Land, lead me as I take this shamanic journey in the land of the Fae.”
Take as much time as you want to accomplish your goal. Stand, sit, walk around, whatever feels right at the time.
When you feel it is time to end your journey, leave your gift while saying a prayer of appreciation to the Goddess Danu, asking her to keep you safe as you journey back through the mists to the realm of the mortal.
“Danu, Goddess of the fae, who live beyond the portal, Guide me safely through the veil, back to the place that’s mortal.”
