I’m Jamie aka Sonofae. I am 60 years old and have been practicing since 1984. I live in a very small rural town in Texas named Daingerfield that is smack dab in the bible belt, so I am pretty much Solitary for the exception of when I work with my adult daughter. I have a daughter who is 36 and a son who is 35 with 3 grandsons that are 2, 13, and 16. I was married for 26 years until my husband passed away last August 31. Since he passed, I have been in limbo and pretty lost for the past year and out of touch with myself and my spirituality. You’d think it would be the opposite, but I went down the rabbit hole losing him. I have recently dusted off my Altar, attempting to pick myself back up. I know this is a heavy introduction, but it is a huge part of me at this point in my life. I look forward to connection with others as I am here. Blessed Be to all and Blessed Mabon to all.

I am familiar with the Dallas area. You seem to be between Dallas and Texarkana. (
I’m Mrs. El Paso 1999) Not a “heavy introduction” at all. I tend to be a yapper and seem to be a TMI person sometimes. So, not a problem here.

Hello Sonofae! My name is Brenda aka Bebe. My heartfelt condolences for your loss. My wife and I will have been married for 26 years come Oct 14 - I can’t stand the thought of being in this world without her - my heart aches for you.
I just relocated from NE Texas (Sherman) to Pueblo, CO about a month ago. I know exactly what you mean about the Bible Belt!!! BE SAFE.
I hope this is not insensitive but have you reached out to your hubby? I believe if you open that channel he will answer you.

I love Pueblo - my wife’s family is here and we have wonderful friends here - there really is no adjustment LOL - and I agree, the Pueblo vibe is much more to my liking, too. I grew up in So Alabama and then spent my late teens and 20s in No Louisiana. I’ve always felt out of place in the South although I did love being a child in So Alabama - barefoot, eating wild blackberries … it was the best in that respect butttttttttt - there was always CHURCH. Evangelical church with a preacher in a white suit and an Englebert Humperdinck pompadour. My Hand to God (no pun).
Tell me your experience of Texas - I’m curious how many similarities there will be.

Your practice sounds familiar. Im in a rural farmimg town in SC, a lot of people here are wonderful but are heavily christian. Ive been asked a few times if i go to church and i say “nah, nature is my church” and it seems accepted since i dont describe further what i do. I am also a solitary aside from practicing with my mother. Im still pretty new to the forum myself, but its a welcoming space here. Enjoy it! Blessed Mabon

Yes, you are correct between Dallas and Texarkana…closer to Texarkana. I avoid Dallas as much as possible as it is just to “busy” for me I have grown accustomed to my tiny little town and low traffic. I also can be a bit of a yapper so I get it 
I did celebrate Mabon the other day and am looking forward to tonight’s Harvest Moon. I do plan on trying to connect with my husband on Samhain as that is my plan. I will look up Tarot Talks September…is that on this site or elsewhere? I guess I will find out by looking around.

I just finished writing up my ritual for this evening. First time I wrote it all down, I usually only use prompts, but I always forget something. So, I have reviewed this 3 times, and have it all ready to go.

I did find it with some searching 
I have to say Tarot is something I never learned to do. For some reason it intimidates me. With that being said I used to have someone in my life who did readings on/for me and always found it helpful and informative. I lost touch with her over the years. I find it to be an art for those who have the gift of Tarot. I had a lovely Harvest Moon last night. All I did really was sit outside for several hours. The weather was so nice, cool and comforting for a change and I brought all my gemstones, crystals etc out for a good charge under the moon overnight. I wanted so much to light a fire in the firepit, but we are on a burn ban notice so no fire. We desperately need rain! I live in the pretty part of Texas, East Texas where it is lush and green (not desert) with trees and hills all around and we have been in a drought this past summer. Look at me, just prattling on.

Well, so similar. I have had a “b*tch” of a time since July 4 (independence day here, and what a revelation that turned out to be). My husband beat me and left the home after 31 years of marriage (first and ONLY time of a beating…doesn’t take me twice!!!) So, I understand about the heavy place.
Just a private note here…but commenting on the rest of your post…so, what is your Paganism focus?

Yes, it is the Hill Country in the Piney Woods area. The only thing I miss from my original home of Tucson, AZ are the mountains. Anytime I go back there I always head to Mt. Lemmon as I have a connection there that I didn’t have down below in the horrid desert. Living in hill country now, gives me the feeling of being in the mountains you just don’t “see” them…does that make sense? With that being said, I don’t miss Tucson. I will have to tell you one day about how I came to live in East Texas.
I have been looking at Tarot cards and contemplating on getting a set … there are so many out there to choose from. I will be going to our Metaphysical shop this coming month to see if I can “feel” a deck call to me. It will be a sad trip to the shop as she (the owner) is having to close her doors on the 31st. That leaves me an hour and a half from the next nearest shop.

The deck is your choice to what feels right. I suggest for started, the RWS tarot deck, it is the most “universal” and learning with that, will help you with other designs later, as you feel confident.
I have and use 2 RWS decks, but have 3 others with different iconography, that I “play” with.
