How is everyone celebrating today, the new moon, solar eclipse, and fire horse?

Oh hello! My name is Katie. I haven’t done my formal introduction yet, but I’m new to the pagan and witch world. I’m still trying to figure out where I fall in everything and am learning how to do rituals and celebrate the moon and whatnot.

How are you guys celebrating today? I’ve read this doesn’t happen very often, the solar eclipse, new moon, and year of the fire horse happening all on the same day. I guess it’s a rare occurrence which is freakin sweet! But how do you celebrate all of that?

Do a new moon ritual and solar eclipse ritual? Pull cards? I’ve read we aren’t supposed to wash our hair, cut anything open sweep or take out the trash. I’m wanting to practice in the traditional ways, but do they still apply in today’s world?

Thank you for your help and happy solar eclipse, new moon, and fire horse! :new_moon::fire::horse_face:

Welcome then! I’m relatively new too, been a Shaman for about a year.

Have you looked for a coven in your area? There’s two by me, and I’m rural.

I found it makes a difference, yes online is great resource, but actual rituals in person

is something I needed personally.

Wow, I did all of those yesterday, lol. See? just such a steep learning curve.

I must say that I did have a bit of divine luck today, on the road. So maybe I didn’t

screw up too badly…

Welcome Katie,

Oh it’s crazy, all these things all aligning at once!

I usually don’t know what to do with myself on days like today - as in wanting to do too much with not enough time lol. I’d do things like collect eclipse water, and do a reading before and after (but not during) an eclipse. Yes, there are many odd taboos about them! I actually didn’t know that about the hair lol.

But what am I actually doing you ask? Well I’m just observing today as an Uposatha day. “But that’s not witchy or pagan at all!” You may protest. And I would agree, only I’m going through some major changes right now in both my life and practice, so that’s about all I can do at the moment, lol…

It’s all subjective really, how you want to practice. If you want to be all into the most traditional style of Western European Witchcraft, all power to you!

Happy Lunar New Year! :confetti_ball::horse:

Merry Meet

If you seek to follow traditional practices, you must first decide for yourself what you are going to define as traditional. Practically none of the modern practices are truly old-world traditional. They are usually traditions established in the early 20th century, based on works of Doreen Valiente, Gerald Gardner and such. Many new-age witches fail to appreciate that “in the old times” being a witch was not something one practiced, it was who you were. And it often got one ostracized if not hanged.

I would encourage you to do your research and decide what really works for you. There are people on here that represent a wide variety of beliefs and practices. Read a lot of posts/comments and you will get some idea of who or what sparks your interest. Don’t be afraid to ask direct, specific questions (as you did here). Some of us have been at this a very long time and vague questions tend to get ignored or inspire a novella response . Brightest Blessings!

I like this simple YT that goes into the types of paganism, and how traditional differs. It’s a start.
