I’ve just found this forum while looking for witchy/pagan communities in my city, which was kind of a bust since I live in a pretty small, northern, kind of conservative city in Ontario, Canada. I’ve been really craving some kind of spiritual community lately, and missing old school forums for longer than that, so this seems like a really cool place to check out. I’m looking forward to meeting some of yall!
As for some info about me, my username pretty much everywhere online is featherfae and my pronouns are they/she/whatever i’m 31 years old, and I’ve been a witch for at least ten years (don’t really remember exactly when I started lmao). My practice has gone through a lot of shifts and changes in that time. Right now I think of myself as a witch and an animist, and maybe pagan depending on who you ask haha. Currently I’m focusing on learning some herbalism and I’ve also been very interested in deepening my ancestor veneration practice. I’m also trying to get back into divination and really trying to focus on living with the cycles of the moon and seasons.
I’m really hoping to make some friends here on this forum, since I’ve been practicing alone for a while now and I really would love just to chat with some people about the practice. I tend to be pretty painfully shy online, but I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone ^-^ I’m looking forward to chatting with all of you!
Hello! Herbalism is a deeeep rabbit hole and ancestor veneration is another. I don’t think you’ll have much trouble finding people who are interested in one or the other.

I am not too great with herbal magick being from Vegas, where it is over 100 all summer. Not much produce to work with, too hard to grow stuff, and our water is restricted anyway. (You have to pay a yearly fee if you have grass in your front yard, different rules for the back yard, though).

I haven’t seen that site before, though I’m sorry to say it doesn’t help me ^^; I don’t know if you’re Canadian, and if you’re not you probably wouldn’t know this, but Ontario is huge, about 60% bigger than Texas. Most of the population lives in Southern Ontario, and I’m from a pretty remote city in the Northwest. The closest group to me on that list is a little more than a 10 hour drive, so not a great commute
The runes are a useful tool for divination and ancestor veneration… you may think of runes as relics from the Proto-Eurasiaitc language. They are words preserved from a time before recorded history. They are ancient memories which contain the wisdom of our predecessors. As such the rune currents stream throughout the ages across diverse cultures and epochs. If you can listen to whispers of the runes, they will guide you, teach you. For many, they even act as a catalyst for atavistic resurgence …
@goblinking3000 Ahh yes I’ve been toying with runes for a little bit, but haven’t got into them really in-depth yet. I have a set of elder futhark runes, but tbh as a person who has more of a scottish/irish heritage I don’t think I connect with them in an ancestors way like people with more germanic heritage do. I’m toying around with learning more ogham script, but largely I’ve found using charm divination is more appealing to me at the moment than using a defined runeset. That could always change, of course. I’m always open to shifts in my interests, especially when it comes to magic

I’ve been here for over a year… and I’ve been interacting with the supernatural world for as far back as my memory goes. My practice has undergone some radical changes over the course of my life - and I’m in my mid 30s now.
Ancestor veneration was a huge part of my practice for a long while. It’s very healing, and very powerful. I highly recommend it. Herbalism is also fantastic, especially if you want to become a healer.

I understand. Just remember the runes transcend cultural boundaries. They are commonly held as Germanic- but in fact are remnants from the language of the Aesir. The runes (as letters) show evolutionary traces of being derived in part from Punic, although the letter names are far older than the Phoenician culture .
Ogham is another great technology, said to have been invented by the Tuathe De.. Like runes, Ogham are memories and concepts preserved from ancient days. However, Ogham also appears to have been influenced by the ''Phoenicians ‘’ . According to the annals of Gaelic history - the Gaels or Scoti considered themselves to be descended from ‘‘Scythians and Phoenicians’’…
