Hi y’all :crescent_moon:

I just discovered this awesome website today and am stoked to be here!

I always find writing about myself awkward, so I’ll just go by the bullet list for ideas. Forgive my lack of imagination.

I’ve known that I’m Pagan since I was fifteen as that was when I first learned there’s a word for what I’ve always felt, but the knowing was there much earlier than that.

I’ve initiated some much needed and rather (ahem) drastic transition in my life at the moment, so what I’m hoping to get out of this forum is some new connections with like-minded people and - if I’m lucky - maybe a kindred spirit or two.

I don’t have extensive knowledge about Tarot or any of the standard “witchy” subjects, but I love deep, long-winded conversations about things that make you wonder.

My favourite sabbats are the spring equinox and Samhain. Being from Winnipeg (that’s in Manitoba, Canada if you’re unfamiliar) my love for Ostara might be no more than the sheer relief that the insane cold of winter is behind me - but it really is more than that. Spring is just glorious. Samhain has a dark allure that I can’t put into words but never ceases to fill me with the gleeful sense that magic is afoot.

My favourite Tarot card is The Star, but ever since these (ahem, ahem) drastic changes in my life started rolling, The Devil has been popping up everywhere. It’s a wild journey, trying to figure out what he’s trying to teach me.

Welcome to the Forum,

I did a little check on covens in Winnipeg and there’s only one, a Gardnerian coven if that’s of any interest to you.

( I’m a believer in having a local coven as well as an online one, they complement each other)

I expect you’ll find what you’re looking for here - lots of people, lots of reading - and yes, we do engage in long talks on just about anything, not just the standard fare, lol!

I second Sedim’s sentiment on finding a local coven if you can - I think it’s a good thing to look into at the least. I don’t have the option, but a surprising number of people do. The path is definitely growing in numbers by the year, by the statistics I’ve seen.

I probably should have added that I followed my heart to the mountains some years ago and don’t live in the 'Peg anymore. In some ways I miss it cuz it had a pretty vibrant Pagan community back in the day, and I find Alberta in genereal to be tad. . .less open minded. :winking_face_with_tongue:

I totally agree that while online stuff can be an amazing source of community and info, nothing beats in person connections.

I’m delighted to hear it! Standard fare is far too bland for my taste haha.

I am keeping an ear out for local groups, but so far haven’t found the right one.

Where would you look these days for a local coven? Use to you could find them on a site called Witchvox but I don’t think that site is open anymore.

Welcome, welcome to our pack :wolf:! I am sure you will find someone with whom you are able to connect. I think Samhain is my favorite. I have always loved Autumn and occult/witchy stuff. Living in Vegas, Baby, Vegas, Autumn was the end to a deadly summer (average 110-120 degree summers) so I loved the cool weather. I was always drawn to magick, ghost, supernatural, since forever I can remember and Samhain just like it was “all that”, “the bomb”, “the cat’s meow”, “groovy”. I loved dressing up as a witch for days, when I was little. Hey, who am I kidding, I still do that, at 61 yrs.:zany_face:.

15 The Devil. This is an interesting card, because of our culture and Judeo-Christian religion (among others), we are already inclined to think of this card in negative terms as if an entity is after us. Not so.

15 The Devil card is representative of unwanted/unrealized entrapment. Most times of our own “choosing”. To make the example clear, this is going to be direct (and I speak from experience)…a heroin addict did not actively “choose” to become addicted, but choices of their own making, made this happen. An abused wife did not “choose” to become the target, but she does “choose” to stay in the relationship.

Sorry for such extreme examples, but the Devil card is about self-imposed, unhealthy, limitations/actions. In one word trapped. Other good words for this card are, temptation, bondage, toxic.

The Devil card shows us how WE are limiting ourselves, and opens our eyes to the actions we are doing that stifle us. We do have the power to release ourselves from the hold we have created.

The iconography of this card is what a Western world person would expect to see with a Devil. Look closely at the man and woman, they are changed to the “seat” of the devil but look at their neck. The chain is loose enough that they are able to free themselves, with a little difficulty maybe, but it is possible.

As for the Star, the card that speaks to you,

Start with 17 The Star, hope, healing, navigation, faith, peace.

I see this card mostly as hope and healing. The guidebook mentions that the person in the picture is naked, which makes sense after the tumult of The Tower. I see her as pouring her hopes and dreams on the ground and in the water to see where it will take fruit/grow. This is why I like the words hope and faith for me. Hope for things to change, and faith that they will for the better. I understand the meaning of Navigation here, as for millennia humans have looked to the North Star for guidance. That seems to be the star here, to guide.
