Consecration for a Travel-size Altar Cloth

Prepare yourself and the ritual as you know to do. Be sure you have the chosen cloth to be consecrated, and don’t forget to light the coals.

In thy cauldron thou must brew hyssop, lavender, rosemary too. (You may substitute a simple if needed.) A measure of sea salt thou must add, or Mother Earth will sure be sad. Now place thy hands above the pot, of mundane things thinking not. Visualize the Witch’s light of radiant blue and purest white coming from thy hands of two, to charge this potion through and through. Here be a chant to make it right, a sacred work upon this night:

“Salt and water, earth and sea, I charge with light and clarity. No spell nor unknown purpose be, except in true accord with me. As I will so mote it be!”

Now some frankincense and myrrh place upon the coals to burn. Chant these words as smoke wafts higher to charge with light the smoke and fire:

“Fire and air, breath and flame, keep light and truth within thy frame. Hear my words, attend to me; as my will, so mote it be!”

Visualize the witch’s light charge the cloth with power bright. Sprinkle now your cloth so fair and pass it through the smoke-filled air. As you pass it through the smoke, repeat these words the ancients spoke:

“Cloth of threads woven tight, I conjure thee upon this night. From mundane cloth with purpose naught, to sacred cloak with power wrought. By fire and air, earth and sea, I cleanse thee now and make thee free from evil and malignancy. The Lord and Lady shall attest, each surface where you now shall rest, becomes an altar rightly blessed. Hear my words, attend to me, consecrated now you be!”

Cover your altar cloth with a black cloth and place it where it will not be touched until the next full moon. On that night take your altar cloth outside (or where it will be in the full moon’s rays, if you can’t go outside). Holding it up to the moon say, “Lunar Goddess, Consort bright, I present to you this altar cloth, rightly consecrated in your name, and ask that you bless it so that it may travel with me and aid me in my magick.”

Your consecrated altar cloth should be placed under the full moon at least three times a year. As with all consecrated tools of Art, your altar cloth is never to be used for mundane purposes and must be reconsecrated if touched by a non-believer or negative energy.
