Cauldron Conversations--March Madness

Super Saturday Sweethearts,

Being raised athiest/agnostic, we did celebrate the holidays but only as secular, a little leaning to seasonal/pagan. Okay, Halloween was just for fun, Christmas was for the Santa Claus story and winter, Easter was to think of spring and the easter bunny fun. We did the American holidays, Thanksgiving, July 4th…But, nothing was religious in my house by any means. Religion was not a necessity nor needed.

Sensational Sunday Sorcerers,

Well, they just left. We took 15-20 takes, took about 45 minutes. They camera crew didn’t know that I had experience. They started to tell me, after the third sentence, I asked, “they didn’t tell you about me?”…ah..“no”–so I told 'em about my TV commercials here in Vegas in '71, Magnum, PI in the '80’s, and the Ocean’s movies and 21 filmed here in town. So he’s like, “oh, okay.” I just told him to tell me where to stand, what angle they wanted…So, the Dr. walks up and I open the door. CUT…his back was to the camera. Ah…now, I get it. I show him a better place to stand. We have some takes of me meeting him in the drive-way. CUT…back to the camera again. I explain to him, his face has to be facing the camera, we will only look at each other through the sides of our eyes, we need to both be slightly facing the camera. Then, me opening the door, over my shoulder shots. This one was a little easier. Anyway, he liked what I did so much, he filmed me making a statement of endorsement for Dr. O to post on his social media, campaign page. So, why not? It was all a bunch of fun. And to wonder, that I thought my “camera” days were over.

Way cool. The only screen time I’ve ever had is as an extra in some japanese film about

the Civil War. I was into re-enactment as a young pup, we had a cannon and everything.

Probably not as popular nowadays. We lived in tents in reproduction campsites. Rustic!

Boy scouts for big kids! We had competitions and everything. I was #2 man on the muzzle of

a 10 pounder Parrot cannon, that’s who puts the powder bag and 3 inch shell into the old hole.

The #1 man rams it down. #1 man often has only one hand left. ( BOOM a bit premature… )

The danger wasn’t reproduction, it was serious. We launched 55 gal drums filled with water

high into the sky, at 200 yards. Very popular spectator events. Drove to Virginia for the weekend.

That sounds so cool, both of your stories!

I’ve never performed in front of the camera, but I have worked behind the camera on more than one occasion, mostly as an assistant and in the art department. Artistically, most of my experience is in still art and in music. There’s a good number of musicians in my family, and a good number of us (myself included) have performed as musicians as well.

Nice! That looks super fun. I love historical reenactment stuff like that too.

You? A Jesus freak? I can’t stop laughing. The 60s and 70s always sound like such a wild time! I’ve played both Jazz and Rock bass. (Playing jazz is murderously hard but so fun.) The majority of my work is in graphic design, character design and illustration, photography and oil painting.
