A little magick in my art work?

Hello all…officially I’m new to the craft. Unofficially it’s always been a part of my life. Since childhood I’ve been very intuitive, and my mom is a very open-minded person so she wanted to make sure I could protect myself. She taught me how to visualize the light to protect myself. She had psychic friends who taught her a few things. Other than that, I’m just beginning and learning. I’ve started a few daily rituals to keep me connected to Mother Nature and the elements but haven’t taken it farther than that yet. I’m taking my time to learn and figure out what resonates the most with me.

A few years ago I started to pour paint and fell in love with it. I’m in my 50’s and finally figured out what I want to do when I grow up, lol. Anyway, I started thinking about the way painting makes me feel when I get lost in the flow of the paint, the peace it brings to my chaotic brain, how much it helps me feel rejuvenated. The whole process is very therapeutic.

That made me wonder if there is a way to imprint/embed?? those feelings into my artwork? so when people see the art it helps bring them a sense of calm and/or a peace of mind? Does that make sense? Maybe it’s naive to want to help people feel a little joy when they need it but that is what my heart tells me it wants to do. I would appreciate any thoughts or advise.

Hello @Neriss

I, too, am enchanted with painting… and sketching. I haven’t thought about imbuing my artwork with any kind of spell, but if you begin with intention, then the paint itself might serve as a medium with which to work a charm. You don’t mention the subject matter of your art but that, too, could provide impetus for a spell such as you describe. I’m not talking about painting pentacles or other kinds of sigils as that’s pretty danged obvious, but subject matter that conveys the feelings you’ve described can be pretty powerful.

I don’t think you’re at all naive to want to spread a little peace through this turbulent world. If anything, it’s really altruistic and lovely.

Perhaps there’s someone else on the forum who has experience with the kind of magic you’re talking about and who can give you/us some guidance. In the meantime, I’m interested in this new aspect of expressing magic, so I want and will do a little research on the topic. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Bright blessings,

Lisa,

Thank you for taking the time to answer. Your thoughts have given me an idea about my art. Because I work with a very fluid paint, I’m thinking I could use my intention when I’m mixing the paint with the medium and water. I think I’m also going to have to do some research.

Your insight about the subject matter was a nice lightbulb moment for me too. Most pour paint artists stick to abstract pieces, working with paint so fluid is interesting, lol. I don’t do that though. I’ve lived by the FL coast most of my life and the ocean and wildlife are very important to me. I have an affinity with water as well. Most of my work is animal and sea life based. I think with how important animals are and the spiritual meaning behind so many of them may be able to help me.

Thank you for your kind words. And I love knowing there are other witchy artists to talk to.

Hello @Neriss

I saw your post within minutes of it’s being published but it took me a bit to think it through before I responded. It was a new idea for me although your comments about getting lost in “the flow of paint,” mirrors my own experience with painting or drawing.

Had to laugh when I performed a search on “painting with magic” and only came up with a bunch of commercial and AI animation sites, someone trying to be the next Bob Ross; even an Amazon paint-by-number product. LOL. Going to need to be more creative with search terms!

Only two interesting sites so far: Art and Magick blog and Art Magick. I’ll keep looking though and share what I find with you.

It’s heartening to find another artist with whom I can share art’s potential magick!

Warmly,

~ Lisa

Witchy Wednesday Neriss,

I do not know anything about arts and creativeness (my creativity is writing). Red, said what I was thinking about. Maybe healing chants to your paints as you paint; maybe imbuing a sense of peace if you are creating a water picture; just suggestions.

Have fun!!!

Lady-Gene,

Thank you. That is a wonderful idea. I have a few more backgrounds I’m going to try to start this weekend, I think I’ll try. Most of my backgrounds are water, which is calming and peaceful to me, this might be perfect.

With heart felt thanks,

Lisa,

I’m haven’t seen much on it, but the sites you listed are different than the one I found before. All I could find was basic information on what an art witch is. That started the rabbit hole I now find myself in.

It’s an interesting concept that I’m really intrigued about. I’m excited to see where this goes and love the idea of sharing that. Would love to see your work sometime if you’d like to share.

Well wishes,

Neriss

13 Tips for Creating Art Magic,

Hi Neriss,

Oh, cool! I will check out the link!

There’s a “Crafts” category here that features the work of several members. I posted 2 examples of some early pieces. The first was inspired by the Lascaux cave paintings, and the second was my interpretation of a panel on the Gundestrup Cauldon.

I haven’t picked up a paint brush or a sketch book in ages so I don’t have a recent piece to show you. I hope to change that soon as I’m setting up a studio in my new place.

Would love to see some of your paintings as well! Just start a new “topic” when posting so it’s easy to discern. Kinda unspoken etiquette.
