Magickal Monday Bob,
Welcome to our pack!!
Like you many of us have returned or accepted our leanings to the Craft in our later age after “life” has released us from our “responsibilities”; so many of us understand where-you-are-coming-from!
Sounds to me that you are an empath. I cannot guide you with that, but I am sure there is someone who can.
For “newbies” here are 3 books that I always recommend to start:
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham**a very easy read.
Buckland’s Complete Book of Witchcraft (Affectionately called Buckland’s Big Blue) by Raymond Buckland**this is almost like a workbook, with little exercises at the end of each chapter. This book is a little more in-depth than Scotts book and explains a little about the different Wiccan “denominations” if you will.
A Witches Bible: The Complete Witches’ Handbook by Janet and Stewart Farrar** this is very ritualistic and is Gardnerian Wicca. This explains in-depth the rituals of Wicca.
After reading these books, the first step, I believe, is to delve into what calls your attention. I mean, you need to feel motivated and excited, so start where you feel most drawn to. Eventually you will need to decide if you are a Wiccan (followiing specific gods and rituals…think of it as a pagan form of catholicism with the rituals and all), or if you are a Witch. They are very similar AND overlap, but are not the same. For people who do not understand, when they ask if I am Wiccan, I just say yes, and leave it at that. For people who understand a little, I tell them, no, but I am a Witch. Anyway…there are many, many types of magick, spiritual paths, witchcraft, and differing “denominations” in Wicca itself. But, do not focus of the different paths to start.
Again, start with what calls your attention.
Feel free to ask any and all questions, no such thing as a stupid question…what is the worst that can happen? You don’t get an answer? Oh, well, you’re back to page one…no loss.
Do what you feel called to. If you are curious I am starting a tarot thread as of today, Tarot Talks for June 2026. Please join us, it is a discussion of the cards.
So, I hope I did not overload you. Have a great week, and beginning of June. We just had and are still having today, a Full Blue Moon, which will not happen again until sometime next year. If nothing else, just take a moment to look up at the moon, in the quiet and see what you feel. Baby steps…
